The Danforth 13 x 17 x 5½ inches (33 x 43.2 x 14 cm)
THE DANFORTH
13” high, 17”wide and 5½” deep
Weave fabric strips filled with stiff interfacing to create a professional looking briefcase
Consider using one fabric, color or shade (dark or light) for the vertical strips and a contrasting fabric or color for the horizontal strips.
Hoffman CA Fabrics’ Bali Pops™, which contain individual batik strips, work perfectly with this project.
MATERIALS
FABRIC
For the woven strips
Use 2½” strips cut the full width of the fabric (WOF) generally 42/44” Vertical - 1½ yards or 18 strips 2½” x WOF
Horizontal - 1½ yards or 20 strips 2½” x WOF
For the binding, handles, gusset and pockets - 1¼ yards
If choosing separate fabrics: Binding and Handles - ½ yard Gusset - ¼ yard, Pockets - ½ yard
STIFF INTERFACING
Two rolls of Rigid Weave or 2 yards of other stiff interfacing 20” wide
Rigid Weave, by Innovative Craft Products, available in 1 ¾” x 10 yd rolls
FUSIBLE BATTING (45” wide) for Pockets and Gussets - ½ yard
1/4” COTTON UPHOLSTERY PIPING for Handles -5 yards
ONE MAGNETIC CLOSURE and BUTTONS, if desired
Other Tools: Matching thread, sewing machine, scissors (both large and small), a tube turning tool (like Quick Turn by Dritz), pins, rotary mat and cutter, acrylic rulers, seam ripper, chalk and measuring tape
