ATX Slave PSU Switch
This is a custom designed and manufactured ATX slave PSU switch which allows two (or more, with additional such switches) ATX PSU's to be used in one PC system and all controlled from a single power switch or O/S command. Please see the example wiring diagram in the gallery.
It is functionally similar to the Add2PSU and similar devices but with several advantages.
This device is true solid state, it does not use relays. Relays are not solid state devices, they have moving parts (see http://www.techterms.com/definition/solidstate ) and can generate heat, they use more power than this device and can be a source of electromagnetic spikes and/or noise.
The features of this design include:
- Optically isolated switching
- Plug and play - installs in seconds
- No need to cut or join wires
- Uses floppy drive power connector to save using more valuable molex/SATA connectors
- Smaller footprint than many of the alternatives
- Adhesive base for quick mounting
- Releasable cable tie for more secure mounting
- LED indication of PSU status to aid fault-finding
This device is intended for use in PC systems with, for example multiple GPU's (often found in crypto-coin mining rigs), hard disk arrays, or extensive cooling or lighting features that require more power than a single lower-wattage PSU can supply but which can be safely powered from seperate PSU's, so potentially saving the cost of expensive high-wattage PSU's.
As feedback from customers shows the primary PSU does not need to be a standard ATX PSU, as long as a standard floppy-drive power connector can be provided to the PSU Switch then custom or non-standard PSU's can be used as the primary. (Secondary PSU's must have standard ATX connectors.)
Installation is very straightforward and basic instructions are included.
Feedback received from previous buyers of this item includes:
• "Great Item Worked a Treat!, Would Highly Recommend the ATX PSU Switch"
• "Works perfectly. Even in a HP server with a non ATX power supply"
• "Good quality item and super-fast delivery"
• "Very fast service, great bit of kit"
• "Great little gadget"
• "Good price, fast delivery and the switch works just as described"
(Please note, it is generally not recommended to run multiple PSU's in electrical parallel - that is with their power outputs directly connected together or connected together through a common device. You should research your intended configuration thoroughly. This device merely turns on or off a secondary PSU. No liability can be accepted for damage caused by inappropriate configurations.)
