Seller's Description
Original 10 3/4 inch x 8 1/4 inch Double-Sided Wood Engraved Cartoon page titled ARCHITECTURE: OR THE TERMITE STATE from Punch, October 17, 1934.
The cartoon is by Thomas Derrick (1885 - 1954). Derrick studied at the Royal College of Art. In the 1920s he designed some posters for the London Underground and from 1931 was an active cartoonist for Punch.
Punch, or The London Charivari, was a British weekly magazine of humour and satire established in 1841 by Henry Mayhew and wood-engraver Ebenezer Landells. Historically, it was most influential in the 1840s and 1850s, when it helped to coin the term "cartoon" in its modern sense as a humorous illustration.
The page is in very good condition with printed text and a smaller cartoon on the reverse.
