Seller's Description
These antique vine majolica plates were very popular in Victorian times, but this particular pair must have been used solely for decoration rather than general use involving sharp cutlery, because the front is in very good display condition.
Most of these plates have some wear on the raised veins of the leaves. It's very unusual to find a matched pair. The colour is lovely and they add charm to many settings and look great on dressers.
Patterns vary slightly and there is seldom, if ever, a maker's mark. Here they be a number - '12' stamped on the base. They also each have three small pinhole marks from where they were hung on a wall using a brace. One of the plates has an antique repair on the bottom of the rim, which is barely noticeable unless you're looking for it!
The diameter of each approx 22cm.
