The book measures approx, 14.5cm by 22cm and contains 533 marble edged pages with a portrait frontis and a further fourteen, full page illustrations and plans.
There is also an additional plate, not mentioned in the list of illustrations opposite page 474, featuring the Tomb of Sir Christopher Wren.
The text block is tightly bound.
The pages are generally free of foxing although foxing is present around the endpapers, an occasional illustrated plate and titles.
The front pastedown bears a "Fanshaws" family book plate.
The book is from the collection of Constance Demain Saunders.*
The half leather bindings have some edge wear , some rubbing to the spine fascia and a small (approx 1cm) split to the top of the front joint.
The binding is solid and firm.
*Fanshaws in Hertford is a large house built by Constances father, Henry Wilson Demain Saunders, around 1885. The house is now the property of the Institute of the motor industry.
