Antique Victorian Large Vulcanite Three Dimensional Rose Flower Themed Brooch
This beautiful antique Victorian Brooch is made from Vulcanite. Vulcanite (also sometimes called "ebonite") was made by combining and heating sap of the Euphorbia or Ficus trees from Malaysia with sulphur. Invented in 1843 by Thomas Hancock, pieces made of vulcanite were almost always molded, not carved, and it was used mainly in making jewelry.
This particular large Brooch features a beautiful raised three dimensional central Rose Flower with a 'Greek Key' design around the perimeter.
It has a good working Pin and a secure Rollover Clasp which looks to be a 1930s/40s replacement to the original pin.

The Brooch measures 5.5cm x 4.5cm and weighs 22.5g.-------------------------------
It is in excellent antique condition as shown with no damage to the Vulcanite - Age Victorian.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
