Framed Antique 19th Century Floral Berlin Woolwork Embroidery / Tapestry
A beautiful and well executed piece of Berlin Woolwork set within a solid wood frame which was once used as a Fire Screen. However, the frame no longer has the pole stand but could now be displayed and admired as a picture on a wall.

The embroidery covers a large area on a small squared canvas - the surrounding areas of the picture have been left unworked. The picture has been backed with a light bronzed coloured material which gives the unworked part to the main picture a light sheen and sets of the colours beautifully. Furthermore, the backing material appears to be set a little away from the main embroidery which gives it a slight 3D effect.

There is also a piped border around the canvas edge. This gold coloured piped border is hidden by the heavy mottled patterned backing paper on the reverse side of the picture frame. I would not have known it was there if it hadn't been for the fact that the backing paper has a tear over some areas of the frame edge.

Set behind glass.

I'm unsure what wood the frame is - possibly walnut however it is contemporary with the picture and is beautifully carved.

Frame measures approx. 18.00" x 20.50" at the widest points.
