Antique 19th century WOODEN TOOL BOX vintage tool chest
An antique primitive painted wooden toolbox or farm tool chest. A great piece of historical Folk Art!
Bought in Suffolk in the mid-1990s, this is a 19th century pine tool chest with cast iron handles.
There is an almost identical one in the Chelmsford Museum, which I happened to visit the same week as I bought this!
This large heavy chest is an antique and was used for many years by a local craftsman, from the time it was built until relatively recently. It has all the wear you'd expect for something used for decades!

Height: 44.5cm
Width: 88cm
Length: 45.5cm (lid) 44.5cm (box beneath the lip of the lid)
Overall, good condition. Some splitting to the top panel. Some loss of colour. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and use. It remains structurally very sound. As they are part of the description, please enlarge all photographs to better ascertain details and condition.
There is an internal insert which stores tools, which rests on the hard wood runners on the inside.
There is an old lock, but I never had the key for this. It's fixed to unlocked.
There is the smell of petrol / oil from the trunk, which comes from where it was stored for years.
