Anne Francis (1930 - 2011) was born in Ossining, New York. A successful model and cover girl from age five, she played child roles on radio shows and became known as “The Little Queen of Soap Opera”. She appeared on some early TV programmes and made her screen debut with MGM in 1947. She played mainly bits and minor roles until the early 1950s when she signed to Fox, where she developed into a leading lady of the second rank. She later returned to MGM and played for other studios as well, but, despite her blonde good looks and trim figure, she never became a popular star. However, she did prove herself capable of a wide range of roles, from fragile young things to hardened broads. She is probably best known for her role as Altaira Morbius in “Forbidden Planet”.
