In 1910, after graduating from the St. Petersburg Mining Institute, he worked for seven years in the Geological Committee. In 1917, he was sent to the United States to study the American oil industry. At the suggestion of V.I. Lenin in 1918, Gubkin joined the Main Petroleum Committee. Throughout his working life, I.M.
