Spike Milligan's Frankenstein is equally haunted, haunted by the image of his poorly stitched together creation in his poorly stitched together trousers (will they never stay up?) roaming the countryside with it hanging out, terrifying the populace, scrounging fags and desperate for a shag.
Just like Mary Shelley's original story of Frankenstein, this latest volume in Spike's bestselling "According to..." series is built on dark brooding torment. The fact that Spike has built plenty of laughs onto the brooding torment just goes to show where the Shelley woman went wrong.
Mary Shelley's characters may never have used the kind of strong language uttered by spike's versions, but I bet they often wanted to.
A hardback published in 1997 by Virgin Books (this is a 2000 reprint edition)
