The Cornish Fishermen's Watch-Night and Other Stories contains a plethora of religious stories compiled by the Religious Tract Society, originally founded in 1799. This long-standing society created many original works of Evangelical Christian literature aimed at children, women and the poor in the attempt to bring those considered pure and innocent into the Evangelical fold. In addition to their written literature, the Religious Tract Society also proselytized via their public works and founded the London Missionary Society and the British and Foreign Bible Society within locally destitute communities.
An interesting read for scholars and students of religion, this book provides a variety of stories meant to educate and entertain Christian children. The title story evokes the important morals of purity and steadfastness for both children and adult readers as a newly arrived preacher converts his flock and leads them away from their sinful life to one of holiness and forgiveness.
