The author...here traces nine centuries of the making of Horsham in a book that is more than a history of the town.He has written an account that should not only fascinate present-day residents and visitors but should also serve as a warning of the dangers of apathy for Horsham and for other towns like Horsham which still have a little of their ancient heritage remaining and in need of concern and conservation.

This challenging book is not a definitive history of Horsham but a new look at the history of some important aspects of its life. As such it is a significant contribution to the published history of that part of Sussex, and of the Weald, that will be welcomed by many, whether their interest is urban history, transport history, local history or simply Horsham.
