Seller's Description
CORONATION STREET: AROUND THE HOUSES by Darn Little.
Coronation Street is the world's longest-running television programme and Britain's favourite drama serial, watched by 15 million regular viewers.
Since the cameras first rolled on to the cobbles in December 1960, Coronation Street has become famous. But before 1960, the residents led a more 'private' existence, coping with two world wars and starvation in the Depression years.
Coronation Street is at the heart of weatherfield, an old industrial town. It was built after the death of Queen Victoria, and completed in 1902 in time for the coronation of Edward VII. Life was never easy here, and the Street has always bred strong characters, from Pearl Crapper at No. 9 who buried husband and son after the Weatherfield Pit disaster of 1906, and Ena Sharles, the battling caretaker of the Mission of Glad tidings, to Samantha Failsworth, sultry barmaid at the Rovers Return.
Family names have come and gone. Some, such as the Hewitts, lasted for 70 years; other more recent names - mcDonald and Mallett - have yet to stand the test of time. No matter how long residents stay in the Street, they share one thing: they belong to the community.
CORONATION STREET: AROUND THE HOUSEs is the fascinating who-lived-where account of the Street and its inhabitants from the day it was built up to the present day.
