Seller's Description

Title: The Banjo Of The Bush - The Life and Times of A. B. Paterson.
Author/Editor: Clement Semmler.
Description:
Banjo Paterson is known to most Australians as the balladeer of The Man from Snowy River and Other Verses, which was published in 1895, and down the years has far outsold the work of any other Australian poet.
He takes his place with Henry Lawson as a household or classroom legend of the Australian ethos, a legend he himself lived out in the rough-and-tumble of the many Patersons.
There was the Paterson of the Sydney Bulletin days in the 1890s, a journal which still excites admirers of its unique writers and cartoonists; Paterson jaunting through the Boer War meeting Kipling and Churchill or visiting China in the midst of the Boxer Rebellion. He participated in the first car trial from Sydney to Melbourne over a highway of bushtracks - excellent training for driving ambulances in France during the First World War.There was Paterson the accomplished horseman who led a group of Australian rough-riders in Egypt, the authority on racehorses and horse-breeding.
Bushman, overlander, squatter, adventurer, all suited the image of A.B. Paterson. At the same time he was also the city celebrity - lawyer, novelist, essayist, newspaper editor, man-about-town, clubman, lecturer and broadcaster.
All this adds up to the ideal subject for a biography of a man, who in Clement Semmler's own words was "in every sense a great Australian".
The Banjo in the Bush, still the major study of Paterson, captures this "tantalizing Australian" who had a profound influence on the trend of literature to translate Australian dialogue to the printed word.
