Seller's Description
FROM FRINGE TO FLYING CIRCUS: CELEBRATING A UNIQUE GENERATION OF COMEDY 1960-1980 by Roger Wilmut.
This book is a celebration and history of twenty years of the very best of British comedy.
When BEYOND THE FRINGE opened at the Edinburgh Festival in 1960 it marked the official opening of what was to be a new era in British comedy in the theatre, radio, television and the cinema - an era largely dominated by writers and performers from student cabaret and revue who came into show business almost accidentally.
The book contains many quotations from special interviews with the people involved and a wealth of hilarious script extracts - ranging from Alan Bennett's celebrated sermon to the famous Monty Python 'Pet Shop' sketch - and vivid performance photographs and ephemera. The whole adds up to a feast of astire, wit and lunatic comedy.
A hrdaback published in 1980 by Eyre Methuen
