Seller's Description

Michael Morpurgo            War Horse

At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. A beautifully read audio that captures the power of the human spirit. READ BY DAN STEVENS. Beautifully performed by Dan Stevens, `War Horse' has taken the world by storm. First published back in 1982, the book was adapted to the stage and was performed at the National Theatre back in 2007. It's well deserved success means that it has now gone into it's third year at the New London Theatre and will be later debuting on Broadway in New York City. At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary odyssey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home.

GRADING INFORMATION

MINT Not a word to be used lightly. All CDs will be damaged to some extent when they are used, even when great care is taken putting the disc in or taking the disc out of the player. I will only use this word to describe a disc I have reason to believe has never been used, this will usually mean it will be described as new but the word mint is there just in case I need it.

EXCELLENT A disc that looks like it has never been used even though I know it has. Perfect, scratch free condition.

VERY GOOD As previously stated, all CDs will be damaged to some extent when they are used, this usually means that the CD has rubbed against the tray in the player causing light surface scratches or rub marks. These rarely have any effect on play, in fact any CD that does have these marks will have been fully tested before it is allowed into the VERY GOOD grade. The best way to describe it is, if you found the CD in a second hand shop or on a market stall and you checked the disc before buying, you would see the marks but you wouldn't have any doubts about the discs ability to play. A plus or minus sign (+ or -) indicates how close the disc is to being in the higher or lower grade.

GOOD If you found the CD in a second hand shop or on a market stall and you checked the disc before buying, you would hesitate before buying a CD with a GOOD grade without first checking what the returns policy was. It looks like it will play but you wouldn't like to guarantee it. Rest assured, all CDs that I put in the GOOD grade will have been fully tested and be guaranteed to work perfectly (and the return policy ain't bad either). A plus or minus sign (+ or -) indicates how close the disc is to being in the higher or lower grade.

ACCEPTABLE Looks like it won't play but will have been fully tested and is guaranteed to work perfectly.

POOR Everything else. I'll probably throw it in the bin, but if there is a reason I think this might still be of interest to someone I'll explain the problems and the reasons for bothering with it in the listing.

Synopsis
Brimming with more than 140 dramatic images, this is the stunning, visual companion to Steven Spielbergs epic adventure, set in rural England and Europe, about a young man and his horse and their separate journeys through the battlefields of the First World War. One of the great stories of friendship and war, the successful novel "War Horse" not only inspired the award-winning stage play, but also inspired one of the great directors in film history to commit his talent, vision, and resources to make this extraordinary movie, which was shot in the countryside of England. "I first fell in love with the story of "War Horse" because I was moved by the relationship between a boy and an animal in Michael Morpurgos novel and the screenplay by Richard Curtis and Lee Hall," writes Steven Spielberg in his foreword. "But, ultimately, I made it because of what the book and the screenplay say about courage. I t is about the courage of the horse Joey and what he endures to survive, and the courage of Albert in his attempt to find his best friend in a time of war. With every frame of this film, it was my hope to issue a call for courage in our daily lives. A call to be brave." Additional forewords by producer Kathleen Kennedy, novelist Michael Morpurgo, and co-screenwriter Richard Curtis reveal their feelings about the story and the process of moving it from page to screen. The main body of the book is divided into three sections: Part 1: "Joeys Journey"--A visual retelling, along with script excerpts and filmmakers comments, of the journey taken by Joey, the horse trained by his beloved Albert, from the striking verdant countryside of Dartmoor, Devon, to training in the British cavalry, to trench warfare in France. Part 2: "The Making of War Horse"--An insiders glimpse of the movie-making process highlighted with fascinating insights from the international cast and the crew about the casting, locations, costumes, horse training, and much more. Part 3: "The History of War Horses"--An illuminating section on the role of horses in battle, illustrated with iconic images from history, vivid drawings, paintings and photographs. This beautiful book is a testament to what can be done when people become impassioned about a goal. As producer Kathleen Kennedy expresses in her foreword: ""War Horse" was one of those unusual productions that comes together in an incredibly short time, and for all the right reasons. Everyone involved understood the films potential, the richness of the characters, the depth of emotion, and the strength of the storys message."
