Seller's Description
6 x Antique Books, 1876, Poetic Works Of Sir Walter Scott - Hardback, Handy Edition, Rare
Description:-
This sale is for a six, rare, 1876 books collective called "Poetic Works of Sir Walter Scott" by the author, Sir Walter Scott. Some Illustrations. These books were published by Bradbury, Agnew, & Co and were printed in London.
The design of each book is the same. The front and rear covers of each book are bound with a red cloth material and embossed in black with the images of a pike, a harp along with two other images. The spine of each book are similarly bound with red cloth, have gilt embossed writing (book name, author, edition) and images (stars and crescent, hand). There is also embossed black lines on the spine, a picture of plant and a circle around the embossed gilt hand image. Finally, the edge of the pages are gold coloured. The combined effect results in a set of attractive looking books.
Overall the book seems quite rare. During my search, I was only able to find one other complete set like this.
In regards to the condition, overall the condition is pretty good, especially when considering the age. Details of each book can be found below in the section called Physical Condition. Please use these details and the advert pictures to see the condition of each individual book.
"Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet FRSE FSAScot (15 August 1771 – 21 September 1832), was a Scottish historian, novelist, poet, and playwright. Many of his works remain classics of European and Scottish literature, notably the novels Ivanhoe (1819), Rob Roy (1817), Waverley (1814), Old Mortality (1816), The Heart of Mid-Lothian (1818), and The Bride of Lammermoor (1819), along with the narrative poems Marmion (1808) and The Lady of the Lake (1810). He had a major impact on European and American literature."
