The Black Crowes - Freak 'n' Roll... Into The Fog (2006 DVD of 2005 CA concert)

The concert was recorded as part of the Crowes 2005 reunion tour, at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. Featuring the return of guitarist Marc Ford on guitar, in arguably their best line up since the mid 1990s, the performance is breathtaking. For all Black Crowes fans, this dvd is a must, as it features some brilliant performances of their usual range of material across six albums, plus a couple of covers and b-sides. Chris Robinson and the band are on fine, relaxed form, while never losing any of the intensity which has made them such a unique rock and roll band. Some of the jamming within staples such as Hard to Handle and Soul Singing, take the songs off in whole new directions, and show a band fully at ease with itself and its fans. Chris Robinson has never seemed so at ease, yet soulful in his own hippy go lucky manner. His brother Rich actually smiles during a couple of tracks, which is a collectors item in itself. Having watched this dvd several times, I cannot think of a live rock n' roll band I would rather see on this kind of form. The extra footage, taken from behind the scenes is a little disjointed. Kate Hudson pops up from time to time flirting with anything in trousers, which all celebrity watchers will no doubt enjoy!
