Seller's Description

TITANIC: THE WORLD'S LARGEST LINER: COMMEMORATIVE Jigsaw Puzzle.
1000 Piece - Measures: 730 x 480 mm
RMS Titanic was the world's largest liner at the time of her maiden voyage from Southampton on the 10th April 1912. She was 269m in length and weighed 46,328 tons. On her initial voyage she carried over 2200 passengers and crew.
The Titanic was considered to have been so well constructed it was believed that "The boat id unsinkable" (quoted by Phillip Franklin, White Star Line Vice-President). Early in the morning of April 15th 1912, the Titanic foundered in the North Atlantic disproving this concept in a devastating way. This led to the largest peacetime maritime disaster in history, with the loss of over 1,500 lives.
The sinking of the Titanic shocked the world. The year 1912 had dawned bright with promise and the maiden voyage of the Titanic was a symbol of the advances mankind had made in the last few years.
Information regarding the sinking of the Titanic indicates that the ship was heading towards a huge iceberg and even though efforts were made to change the course of the ship away from the iceberg, it was too late to completely avoid it. Sadly, the disaster may have been avoided if officers had taken notice of earlier reports warning of drifting ice.
The exact cause of the foundering of the Titanic is still subject to massive debate. The initial factor was the collision with an iceberg but the question of what actually caused the ship to sink is still uncertain.
