In this jigsaw, you will discover many of the great brands that thrived during the first half of the twentieth century, well before the start of the supermarket era. Many were established in Victorian times - Fry's, Cadbury's, Colman's, huntley & Palmer's, Schweppes, Rowntree's, Crawford's, Pear's, Bird's - all using their founder's name, they promoted their peoducts in magazines or on high street posters, making them familiar words in the public's mind. Then came brand names that were already familiar words, such as Stork, Robin, Sunlight or Fairy. The next step was to create a name that was brand new: Cerebos, Bisto, windowlene, saa, trex.

Of course, many brands have now disappeared from the retailer's shelves, like Horniman's tea, Bournvita, Lyon's individual fruit pies, and Force breakfast cereal with its Sunny Jim character. And yet we still retain fond memories for them - even with those housework campanions of Bluebell polish, Reckitt's bag blue r Ronuk furniture cream.......
