Contents of Product.
Lavender essential oils in a Grapeseed base. Additional ingredients, Natural ecosilk for flow and silkiness.
The lavender we use is the genus Lavandula native to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and southern Europe through northern and eastern Africa and Middle Eastern countries to southwest Asia and southeast India. It includes more than 30 species, dozens of subspecies, and hundreds of hybrids and selected cultivars chosen for their therapeutic effects.
Grapeseed is used as a carrier liquid, known for its lighter smooth silky texture and non greasy capability, it has good skin absorption to further aid the linalool and linalyl acetate, the two primary terpenoid constituents of lavender oil which are rapidly absorbed through the skin after topical application with massage, and are thought to be able to cause central nervous system depression which creates relaxation and sleep [1].

Historical use.
Humans have used essential oils for thousands of years. Ancient cultures in China, India, Egypt, and elsewhere incorporated aromatic plant components in resins, balms, and oils. These natural substances were used for medical and religious purposes. They were known to have both physical and psychological benefits. Medieval physicians such as Ebn-e-sina and Razi used lavender for treatment of epilepsy and migraine attacks and it was considered beneficial in treatment of pain and tremor [2–5].

Scientific benefits of lavender on human subjects.
Reduction of anxiety and mood improvement, analgesic -(acting to relieve pain), with an antidepressive effect with a reduction in psychological distress.

A natural sedative promoting calm or inducing sleep. Slowing heartbeat and relaxing muscles, anticonvulsive -(calming hyperactivity in the brain). Increased slow-wave sleep, with less sleep disturbances with more energy the next morning. Neuroprotective -(preservation of brain neuronal structure and/or function.

Scientific benefits of lavender on animal test subjects.
Tested on mice it possed an anti-conflict effect, reduced anxiety, decreased aggressiveness and increasing social interaction.
Sedative effect -(promoting calm or inducing sleep) and a reduction of motor activity in mice.

In scientific tests on rats lavender oil exhibited anti-anxiety properties similar to those of the drug chlordiazepoxide.
In female gerbils scientific tests of lavender reduced anxiety in a profile similar to the drug diazepam better known as Valium.

Human scientific tests.
Psychologists at Wesleyan University in Connecticut had 31 men and women sniff lavender essential oil one night – and then distilled water the next. Researchers monitored their sleep cycles with brain scans and found that lavender increased slow-wave sleep, instrumental for slowing heartbeat and relaxing muscles. Subjects slept more soundly on a lavender night. The group also reported feeling more energetic the next morning.

Alleviation of anxiety and mood improvement were reported in thirty-six patients admitted to an intensive care unit, who received lavender oil aromatherapy [6].

The same results were reported for fourteen female patients who were being treated with chronic hemodialysis [7]. A survey in a long-stay neurology in-patient department showed increased mood scores and reduced psychological distress following aromatherapy with lavender.

Lavender odor studies showed a reduction in anxiety in dental patients [8, 9].

A clinical investigation points to antidepressive effect of lavender in treatment of forty-eight adult outpatients suffering from mild-to-moderate depression led to a better and earlier improvement. Resulting in a superior and quicker improvement in depressive symptoms [10].

The effects on animals in scientific tests.
Several animal experiments suggest anxiolytic -(to reduce anxiety), sedative -(promoting calm or inducing sleep), analgesic -(acting to relieve pain), and anticonvulsive -(calming hyperactivity in the brain) and neuroprotective -(preservation of breain neuronal structure and/or function) properties for lavender [11].

Lavender possessed an anticonflict effect in mice [12]. Continuous exposures to lavender essential oils for 7 days significantly inhibited anxiety and depression-like behaviors tested by elevated plus-maze and laboured swimming tests in rats [13].

Lavender oil produced significant anti-anxiety effects in the Geller conflict and the Vogel conflict tests in mice. Linalool, a major constituent of lavender oil, produced significant anti-conflict effects in the Geller and Vogel tests [14].

Effects of lavender oil were compared with the drug *chlordiazepoxide, as a reference anxiolytic -(to reduce anxiety), on open-field behavior in rats.

*(Chlordiazepoxide trade name Librium among others, is a sedative and hypnotic medication of the benzodiazepine class; it is used to treat anxiety, insomnia and withdrawal symptoms from alcohol and/or drug abuse).

It was found lavender oil exhibited antianxiety properties similar to those of chlordiazepoxide [15].

The anxiolytic -(to reduce anxiety) effect of lavender was also compared with the drug diazepam.

*(Diazepam, first marketed as Valium, a medicine of the benzodiazepine family that typically produces a calming effect. It is commonly used to treat a range of conditions, including anxiety, seizures, alcohol withdrawal syndrome, benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome, muscle spasms, trouble sleeping, and restless legs syndrome as well as to provide sedation before medical procedures. This medication works by calming the brain and nerves. Diazepam belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines.)

In elevated plus-maze test in the Mongolian gerbil. Exposure to lavender odor showed an anxiolytic -(to reduce anxiety) profile similar to diazepam in female gerbils [16].

Investigation of the effects of inhaled linalool (a major constituent of lavender oil) on anxiety, aggressiveness, and social interaction in mice showed anxiolytic -(to reduce anxiety) properties in the light/dark test, increased social interaction, and decreased aggressive behavior [17].

To evaluate the sedative effects of lavender, the immobility of overagitated mice induced by caffeine was ascertained after the inhalation of lavender. Lavender odor significantly increased the immobile state in mice treated with caffeine [18].

Exposure of mice to lavender odor in a dark cage resulted in depression of motor activity, whilst the plasma levels of linalool rose in proportion to the length of exposure [19].
