Seller's Description

From Simon & Schuster, the 3rd printing of 1937. Written under the premise that "If you will keep this general outline of the arts firmly in mind you can never go very far wrong."

677 tightly bound and intact pages divided into 53 chapters, starting with:

"The Art of Egypt",

working through

"Babylon",

"The Greeks",

"The Romans",

"Baroque",

"Opera",

"Rococo",

"The Music of the Nineteenth Century."

 and ending with

"The Art of Prehistoric Man"

Many, many color illustrations by the author, some of which I'd be pleased to send you scans of on request. This book is heavy, over 4 pounds, and will be sent by media mail unless requested otherwise. It measures 9 1/2 X 6 1/2 X 2 inches. The front and back covers are lightly worn and even more lightly soiled. The spine shows a little more soiling from handling and a little more wear. A compendium of knowledge!
