ORIGINAL FULL PAGE PRINT FROM ISSUE OF HARPER'S WEEKLY. An
illustration from Harper's Weekly magazine illustrating the adoption of
a standard four feet nine inches gauge for tracks by all Southern
railroads. The print was published on p. 364 of volume XXX, no. 1537,
June 5, 1886. Below the illustration is a short article on the change
over from broad to standard gauge on June 1, 1886. In the illustration
is a banner, The last spike of our commercial union, south, north. The
god Mercury is seen sitting on the front of locomotive between two
gentleman holding a United States flag with "four feet nine inches"
printed in the flag's edge
