I'm not very up on cross stitch - I have done a bit in my time, but I've usually done small sampler kits that came with magazines and had everything with them to complete the project.

But - if you want to frame the finished design - is it something you could do with normal fabric, perhaps in a comlimentary colour ? or are you after a frame that you have done yourself in cross stitch??

Hi, no i need to know what size cloth i should purchase. the size of my picture when finished will 18" by 24.28" but i think if i'm correct you have to buy a fabric than the size said.

    Not sure really.

Not really sure myself - I may have a couple of books that could help. I'll have a browse and catch up with the thread later.

In the meantime, if you hang on a bit - there are quite a few members here that do do cross stitch and are very good at their craft. I am sure that as soon as they see the thread they'll stop by and help as they'll know the answer in a heartbeat.

    Good luck

I've just re-read the query - and I think I miss understood what you were asking. Sorry - maybe I need to put more sugar in my tea to kick start my grey cells.

You have a pattern for a finished project which will be 12 x just under 17 inch - which you want to frame when its finished. Am I right in that??

The size of aida that you buy will really be dependant on what gap you want between the finished pic and the start of the edge of the frame, and the thickness of the frame. But, if you buy a square of aida somewhere around the 20 x 35 inch, and put your design in the middle - if its too big, you have the flexibility to trim it down to size. You can't add on if its too small. Its better to have too much than not enough.

The count doesn't make any difference its whether you are having a mount or not. The usual guide is if you are using a mount = the design + mount plus enough to fold over the backing board If you are not using a mount then 4 inches more than the design size
so 12x16 would be (mount about 3") 15x 19 plus fold over about 4"
    so 12x 16= 15x 19 = 19 x 23
so I would use 19x 23 inches after all you can always cut off if too much but you can't increase once your design is finished
    Hope that helps
