2nd class is fine by me. I send most things 1st class out of habit. As long as you get your post that's all that matters.

The reasoning being that with experience, I have found 2nd class stuff gets there just as slowly as 1st class stuff (or quickly depending on how half empty/full your glass is).

The customer also pays less for postage.

So does seeing 2nd class put you off buying?
No because in my extensive experience 2nd class gets there just as fast as 1st class- so a seller using 1st class is costing either themselves, or their buyer unnecessary money

    The savings here are considerable!

I offer both 1st and 2nd class and most buyers choose 2nd class. It seems to vary on where you live as to how quickly something arrives.

see, for me, it worked the other way round - ive always sent 1st class and got feedback for super speedy delivery.
So I tried 2nd class as many of you here say its just as quick - including post and cards to my friends and family - and found that delivery went from next day (1st class) to up to a week 2nd class. I dont consider that to be just as fast

I use 1st class for my postcards, but 2nd class for anything that is bigger then a standard letter.

Astral, as far as "seller's standard rate" is concerned: I did put that on my auctions over there for a time, until I read comments on the forums, like the one you just made. I was selling quite a few heavy items at the time and was always using the cheapest postage method, but on a few occasion I got caught out, where I put the amount for 2nd class in, but forgot to change the drop down menu to 2nd and felt obliged to post 1st class at my own expense, as that was what the listing said. At no point did I "abuse" that system; it was just to keep myself out of trouble!

As far as delivery times is concerned; I think it depends which PO you take your stuff to. If I take it to my regular PO, 2nd class means 2nd class and can take up to 3 days; however, if I take it directly to the sorting office (which is actually easier for me), 2nd class generally means next day.

    I generally quote 2nd class.
On very expensive items I state and charge for recorded delivery, but usually use a courier as the Postoffice have lost quite a few items.
If I buy something then 2nd class is fine for me unless I need the item urgently then I usually speak to the seller and see what we can arrange for a quick delivery.
