Thread: Trouble abrewing in ma neighbourhood

Default Trouble abrewing in ma neighbourhood

Plans to convert a former care home into a £3m community centre have been reduced to rubble.
Engineers have advised that Ainsdale House in Savick, Preston, should not be used by community groups because it is suffering from so-called "concrete cancer", an accelerated decay which can lead to a weakening of the structure. They have recommended it be demolished.

Local campaigners are now hopeful that new community facilities can be built on the cleared site if the funding can be found.

Ainsdale House was closed by Lancashire County Council in November 2007 and put up for sale just over a year ago.

It was taken off the market when Preston North West Coun Tom Burns and Larches and Savick Community Group put forward proposals to transform it into a community hub.

Coun Burns said difficulties in changing the layout inside Ainsdale House meant creating a new community centre from scratch on the site was a better option.

He said: "It was full of bedrooms upstairs and we would have had to knock down a number of walls and it wouldn't take it. We're now putting a plan together to rebuild it as a community facility."

Coun Burns added the council had agreed to reserve the site for community use and that the library service and the council's Children and Young People directorate had indicated some funding could be available towards the scheme.

Residents in the Savick and Larches areas will be asked about the facilities they would like to see in the area.

Ideas mooted include a £1.5m library to replace Savick Library, a youth club, employment service, a cafe and activities for older people.

Coun Burns said: "There is a massive amount of older people in Larches who don't have any facilities. We need to talk to the local population to see what their expectations are."

Coun Tony Martin, cabinet member for resources, will today be asked to approve the demolition of Ainsdale House at a cost of £100,000.

I and other residents had trouble round here last year, then we got together and demanded that the police and council got their acts together and those causing trouble were forcably moved away. Now the labour councillors for my area want to build this community hub for the youngsters so that they can cause trouble for the residents and set fires yet again to our bins. We are disgusted about it and the labour councillors don't care.

surely giving them something else to occupy themselves with would be a good thing?

Just give them a sack full of girly mags and the streets will be empty of these lads for weeks. And when they do finally emerge they won't have the energy to cause trouble for anyone.

They (yobs) already have a community centre which supplies everything they are after, yet last year they spent nearly 90% of the time causing trouble for the residents of the estate instead of spending their time in their centre. Now Labour wants to bring the trouble back again.

Yes I have thought of that and yes I did run for local government but nearly won until I was beaten by Labour and the conservatives with their lying policies

We had a community place local to us, opened up especially for the kids, offered loads of activivites, councellors said it was what the kids needed to keep them off the streets.

Did the kids use it, oh yeah they did and it ended up the place being a local gang haunt, police always being called all the time, was a living nightmare for the people living near by,

The building was an eyesore, graffitti all over it, had to have bars up at the windows cos of the amount of break in's.

Then stood for ages empty because they had to close it down due to the trouble it caused

Not all kids are yobs, but people tare them with the same brush when if they are in a group,

Most the yobs tho are known by the police now in my area

    Send them to boot camp
