Today I've tried listing an item and eBid want my card details again...........so I enter them and apparently they want to debit my account with £1?

Not sure when free = £1 but there you go..........evidence as to why eBid have a long way to go to catch eBay.

And that's a shame, I have no confidence, I bailed out of the transaction so I'm not able to list here.

Although it says they charge a £1.00 they don't, but the CC/DC won't accept a transaction for £0.00 so it has to be done that way. It would have been exactly the same when you first signed up.
Seller is for life, BUT you need to keep the details of the Credit/Debit card on your account up to date.

That small amount is very probably to verify that your card and address is correct & current.

Has the card you originally registered with expired? If so then you will need to validate your new card.

The transaction against your card does not debit your account. It merely does a test authorisation against the card. No money actually goes anywhere.

    Hi chucklse1066,

Here at eBid security is tighter than at the larger auction-site from which you have probably arrived. One of the ways that make it more secure for people to use is that each person that signs up is asked to have their card verified, this is to check that the card they have listed is current, and that the detalis given are genueine. If you had read the text on the screen you would have learnt that the £1 (or Dollar) is not actually charged to your account.

Also if you have had to use a different card that would have to be che

I hope you give us a try it is well worth it.

If you've bailed out after something as minor as this (without making further enquiries FIRST), then you probably wouldn't have been a success on eBid anway ........ it takes FAR more patience than that !

That's very true, someone who doesn't read the rules properly then blames everyone else for their own misunderstanding isn't likely to succeed anywhere

FYI the card I used several months ago hasn't expired so I don't see why I needed to re-validate it?

And I did "read the rules properly". Please tell me where in "the rules" it says we won't charge you anything but will then tell you we're going to charge you £1?

Trust me, I want an alternative to FleaBay. But I ain't giving eBid £1 for the privilege of me providing them with my card details.

If a mod can guarantee the £1 won't get debited then I'll try again.

We don't have mods here - only rockers (and a few people off their rockers).
