Thread: Site Update

  1. #1

    Arrow Site Update

Question: I've looked every where & it's probably under my nose...but...how do we find out the latest site updates that were performed over the last few days.

I did figure out that the checks and money orders payment options were split up [thank you Gazza] on the listing page. Took me several hours to update my running auctions to include MOs, but that's okay.

What other updates were made to the site? If you could point me to the right forum regarding this I would most certainly appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi Florida, it's definately under your nose, When you open the forums it's the first thread by gaza. Called "eBid News, News from inside eBid"

Gramma, Sorry I must really be a dunce. I looked where you said and saw Gazza's post regarding down time re: the update, but nowhere can I find what updates were performed.

How did the site change? Like I stated I noticed that a separate 'tick' is now needed for money orders when listing an auction [previously MOs were combined with checks], but what else changed.

    Thanks.

He's only just this moment done the "what changed" post: http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread....906#post873906

I see the WYSIWYG editor has been (ahem) "upgraded". Bet they're regretting that one!

Kimbo, Thanks. I'm not a computer techie. Why would upgrading the WYSIWYG editor be a problem. Thanks.

A large proportion of the reported glitches have been related to people's listing formats being message about since they were reposted or tried to edit them... the upgraded editor looks like the culprit to me. It's been inserting a load of superfluous and harmful html (span font rubbish, in case you're interested!)

I think the WYSIWYG editor is still an add on, not coded by eBid, the last time I looked it was

It has been tidying up old messy HTML, the span tag is perfectly legitimate W3C compliant HTML

The center & left align problem has occured before, from March 2007 all eBid descriptions were left aligned, in one of the later upgrades, it changed to centered, now it's reverted to left aligned again.

The span tag is, of course, a legitimate tag. Adding into already formatted html, so that font controls are both duplicated and in some cases contradicted is not a legimate use of it, however.

I don't dispute the WYSIWYG being bought in, but don't see how that information contradicts my impression that eBid's notice that they have updated it suggests a possible reason why formatting has started going wrong.

It has not being tidying up html, it has been corrupting it. Its new solutions might be better than its old ones, but using *both* is sub-prime.

I don't understand all this techie talk, all I know is that in my defaults the text is size 4, but when the item is listed it has shrunk to size 3.
I know it has been frosty and cold, but I don't like it shrinking when it shouldn't

We've told the editor to NOT change FONT tags to SPANS which was causing the x-small problems.

We also have the option NOT cleanup general html code. At the moment cleanup is switched ON.
