Thanks for all the advice I have now done it so I have a mix of both now I just need to work out the postage as not to over/under charge.
Yes, just normal kitchen scales will do the job! I bought mine from battybat here on Ebid.
Can highly recommend them actually, very fast shipping, the link below takes you to the ones I bought if you’re interested:

    I ALWAYS use Seajay's site for P & P

It is always accurate, and updated a fortnight before any changes happen, so you can put the correct prices on your listings. ( It's run by an experienced auction seller)

    Hi,

I have only been with eBid a couple of months, and have not yet had any overseas sales. Sales have been good for a newbie on eBid.

But as my business on the 'dark side' was about 1/4 to European countries, about 1/4 to US, Oz, SA & Hong Kong, etc and only about 1/2 to the UK I have simply had to continue selling worlwide.

Lets face it - A sale, is a sale, is a sale
    AND
I never post out until I have the money clear in my UK account.

    Good selling, Steven

NP2WENTY6 Do consider shipping international - as said earlier just tick off the countries you feel comfortable with.

Here in Ireland we only have 39 ebid shops so are limited with what we can get. I often see auctions on the left of the forum finishing and sometimes click when I see something I'm interested in only to be disappointed to find they don't ship to Ireland. As these auctions have only 12 mins to finish not enough time to ask if it's possible.

So a plea to all sellers if you are reading this - Please at least include Southern Ireland.

I have rarely offered outside the EU as the postage is so horrendous. I feel that when the postage is more than the buy price of the item then it really isn't worth it.

When I was trading on eBend-you-over-and-shaft-you-bay, I did ship world wide, except to countires of risk. However, I found that I never once got any sales from USA, Canada, Japan or anywhere outside of Europe and the EU. So I stopped shipping to these places. I'm continuing to ship to Europe and the EU because I do have some customers out there, so hopefully they will follow me here.

I find with shipping outside Europe/EU is costly, and I find that most people will not pay the shipping costs, or less, they are extremely desperate for a particular item. At least shipping costs to Europe/EU are a lot less than shipping to Australia.

Another reason I stopped selling to USA/Australia on eBend-you-over-and-shaft-you-bay is because they wanted me to pay for the priviledge of selling on the USA/Australian site - something they do not do here! If I had my own website, it wouldn't cost me anything to sell in these markets so eBend-you-over-and-shaft-you-bay has no right to charge me for it.

Right now, as I'm starting online from scratch again thanks to eBend-you-over-and-shaft-you-bay destroying me on eBend-you-over-and-shaft-you-bay, I'm still not offering shipping outside of UK/Europe/EU at this time as I've never had a customer outside these markets, so until I start getting x amount of people in these markets asking me if I'll ship to them, then I do not see any point in it. They can see from my listings that I do not ship ouotside UK/Europe/EU but if they do want something from me outside of these markets then they are free to email me and ask for a quote which will be fair because I charge the bare minimum possible as I have to recover Royal Mail stamp price as well as packaging materials used which are always new.

It is up to the seller though and if you feel you can generate enough sales from it. for me, I got no sales from outside the UK/Europe/EU so I've left the "world wide" shipping option off for now until things pick up especially in those areas.

    I disagree wholeheartedly!

Never fear postage if you sell something a buyer really wants, such as a specific book, then people will pay. Many, if not most of my sales make more for my local Post Office, than for my bank balance.

Surely the issue is not how much the postage costs, BUT how much the item costs delivered including postage. I guess as a bookseller I am lucky because I can see at a glance what other booksellers are charging worldwide on sites such as ABE, Amazon and etc.

Of course its best when I can set the price, if no one has that particular book. That happens rarely, as I am simply selling old books - not first editions and nice bindings. The best books stay safe from my hands, locked in the family library. Yes! They know me. I just see the books in various conditions, on various sites and set my price lower here in the UK, and hope to sell. Much like Sainsburys?!

I hope here on eBid I will do as well as I have done on the 'dark side' where I sold over 250 books, all over the world, in my first, only and hopefully, last 6 months on the 'dark side'.

I say, it costs nothing to offer to send everywhere. So! Just do it!

    All the best,

    Steven
