Stars. Your vote please

yes, but we are individuals, many of us sitting alone at our computers.. it goes for weeks without being mentioned and then it happens to someone for the first time or on a bad day and there it is.. a kt full of threads about stars.

Sorry to say that I have no idea about these stars - or what they are for.
(or how they can upset people) - could someone explain - preferably in words of one syllable? ( it takes time for these things to filter into my 'oldie' bran!)

I ticked I think the star ratings should go.

Would have preffered a box saying I think stars should go because some people abuse them - therefore they have no point

This thread is not done based on just the one incident yesterday, I have noticed that a fair few people have been upset, by one of their threads being rated low, mostly in spite by the phantom star rater, I have also noticed that there is a lot of rating threads that seem to make no sense.

I personally don't like the star ratings, I would like them to go, but I agree with others the chances of this happening is quite slim.

I just wanted to see what others thought of the star rating system as a whole.

I think I should have added another option to the poll, and that option would have been, Keep the star ratings but make the votes public.

As Gazza has said on the boards in the past, he does not want the boards to be used for nasty comments etc, and I am sure this is the feeling of most of us, but I think the star system allows certain people to do something nasty, and yet there is nothing admin can do about it because the star rater has not left any comments.

As the system can tell whether you have already rated a thread or not, I'm pretty certain that admin can tell who is doing it, so I think they choose not to do anything about it.

Never knew that, but then I'm not in the habit of rating threads.

Right I've voted for them to go, either that or an option of being able to view who has voted on a thread.

I don't give a hoot when they are just playing pathetic games, it doesn't worry me at all, and I couldn't care less if they have nothing better to do with their time! What does annoy me is when they do it to deliberately wreck someone's efforts to do good charity work or to go out of their way to be hurtful and vendictive as in the case of Patriot's thread. That was just downright nasty so I have voted for them to go.

Go towards the top of the page between the poll and the first post and on the blue menu bar there is a rating (currently 3 stars) with a little downward arrow next to them for a drop-down menu. Click on the arrow and you will see the options and what they mean.

Ok, have to admit, I have just checked out what the stars mean! never bothered before, I know I have had one star on my threads before and it never interested me what it meant, I don't really care if they stay or go, will make absolutely no difference to what I read on the forums or my own opinions and for the sad sacks out there who find enjoyment in giving one star, well, god bless em, probably got such a sad life and nothing better to do.
