Exclamation eBay Halts All Digital Sales Effective 3/31/08!

Holy COW! Below is C/C/P of some of the board chatter about this...***bay sellers are fleeing in huge numbers now...just FYI!
    ====================
    [C/C/P]
Yes, I brought it up earlier, but not sure where it went. Anyways, yes, this
is for all digital items, such as domain names, web design, graphic design,
eBooks, eProducts, mp3, audio, video, etc.!

One of the ways around this is to offer your customers these on CD or DVD
which means it is now a physical product. Some have said they will mail the
download link to their customers (this sounds a little on the eBay will ban
that too if known! and kind of very iffy), but the other way will be to do
the classified ads (and reports are they do NOT work well!).

And yes, the classified ads cost $9.95 upfront before you get the ad, they
run for 30 days, and ebay can host any type of advertising on that page.
PayPal still makes their fees on shipping from eBay and even if you sell
from your website, so they have the fees all coverered still.

This is an excellent time to get a website, join some other auction or
friend sites such as YouTube.com and MySpace.com, or even expand your sales
    locally.

To give you some measure of how many stores and eBayers leaving, there have
been reports of eBay just shutting down entire stores that sell eBooks and
digital items only already, and personally yesterday I was about 10400+
something on the reviewers list, and today I am now under the 10,000 mark.
So people are leaving like flies!

As much as I dislike the dark side..... what are they doing to themselves.... the rate they are going they might as well shut up shop. I'm glad I left when I did

Me too! The word 'dictatorship' seems to spring to mind! Shame, it used to be a nice place to trade, but never mind we now have Ebid which is even nicer!

very true. plus I can list things here I never could on the dark side due to all the fees. Mind you it also means I have a lot more things to scan and potograph so that I CAN list them.

Stupid as they've shown themselves to be on occasion, I can't see even Feebay doing this unless they were forced to as this sort of stuff has brought them so much in fees for so long. So it sounds to me like someone has used legal pressure to get eBay to clean up their act and stop allowing people to sell all the dodgy copies, the ripped off content and the downright cack stuff that's been floating around the net since it began.

So true somerset, I am listing items at 40/50p, which I would never have done over there and my postage here is lower. Never listed anything there for less then 90p

Coming over here won't do those digital sellers any good as it is not allowed here - I know because I read the rules before selling. My main income was selling ebooks (90% of which I create myself) but am now selling them on a different site. My jewelry I decided to sell here. My ebook career, after nearly 2.5 years, will be over come end of the month.

I read the discussion boards 'OVER THERE' late last night, oh boy, what an uproar, and by the looks of it, there seem to be hundreds of sellers closing their stores with thousands of items, many of which earn their livelihood from. I feel so sorry for them.

I agree about all the crap ebooks for sale 'OVER THERE' and I'm not surprised this has happened. It means all good respectable digital info sellers (like myself) will now have to suffer the consequences because of the few scam artists out there.

What I learned from all this is: NEVER KEEP ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET
