    Default BBS1 Question time

Ok I was watching the programme this morning. Not sure if thats the right title of it though. Hosting it was the guy who used to do watchdog.

They were chatting about Halloween, they had Pagans there, a representative for the Church and others.
Now as we know slowly but surely we are turning into a Capitalist state.
Look at all the things they bring forth & we spend our hard earned cash.

Halloween if I remember correctly was originally something to do with Pagans, remembering the relatives & friends who had passed away, then the Romans came over and added harvest to it, then the Christians took over and claimed Pagans were worshiping evil spirits etc etc (witches). Now the representative of the Church (Christianity) actually agreed with the Pagans. They claimed that over the years Pagans were made to look bad and the Church admitted that they had taken Sowwen (not sure if thats spelt right) away from the Pagans who celebrated the loss of loved ones at the end of October.
The guy from watchdog said to the church rep, isnt this now Capitalist. Where people are spending money on clelbrating an over rated function. IE: shops & supermarkets & g,ment were in on the take & brianwashing the children into pestering their parents for costumes etc etc.
Im all for celebrating with a cup of tea or bottled water. My kids have over the years come to realise I dont follow the incrowd & hasseling me for stuff doesnt always work, as I have my own ideas about cedrtain topics.
Plus the fact that the dressing up on halloween originates from the USA and has nowt to do with All Hallows eve. etc etc.

Ok everyone has their opinions, what im trying to say is. Why over the centuries & years do WE as a Country allow such things to be demoralised by others taking over. I dont know much about Paganism, but the Pagans on the show did explain a bit of it, basically Christianity derives from Paganism & the Church demoralised Pagans as a religious group. Surely this should not be allowed. The Pagans were also saying that Easter used to be one of their celebrations (cant remember what they celebrated) but it had nowt to do with eggs, bunnies etc etc.

I think we are slowly being forced not just by our children but by others to waste our money on such celebrations when no one actually knows what we are celebrating.

What are your thoughts on these so called celebrations that have been around for centuries. And changed to suit whoevers needs.

SORRY TITLE SHOULD READ BBC1 (typo error)

Easter was originally a celebration set aside for Oestria, Goddess of spring, new life and fertility. The Egg was the symbol of new life.
Christians adapted the Church Calendar to fit in with the pagan celebrations.
You can teach any religion in School, from Islam, to Hinduism etc. etc. The only religion not allowed to be taught in UK schools is Paganism, which is the native religion of the UK. Go figure. Even the Druids were latecomers.

It happens because the big "established" religions like to keep their power base by using their wealth and influence to prevent any threat to their dominance. Just the same as it has been for hundreds of years.

Wotan and Odin came in with the Vikings. The Goddess was here before them.

An when you look into it, Paganism is about the most sensible religion there is.

Don't think there's ever been any wars started in the name of Paganism either, unlike a few other religions.

I have always suspected that the Christians suppressed Paganism, because it had a female deity, and celebrations were held by priestesses. Like a lot of imported Eastern religions, of which Christianity is just one, male dominance, and a male deity are the norm.
In Ireland the Catholic priests insisted everyone went to Mass. The women sat in the Ladies Chapel. Either the priests didn't realise [unlikely] or didn't much care, that the Lady they worshipped was the Goddess, not Mary. B*ms on seats kept the Pope happy. Many Irish women continued to worship the Goddess in the guise of St. Brigid. The priests seemed to have accepted this too.
