    It is legitimate. People can elect to be tried on the show, but have no legal representation. They have to put their own case, and abide by the Judge's decision. No legal fees to pay persuades some people to air their dirty linen in public. There was a pilot programme made in the UK for a similar idea, but they had a judge and jury. Probably mid 1980's but I can't remember for sure.
    I like Judge Judy. You can't imagine her asking stupid questions like "What is Linford Christie's Lunchbox?" Our Judges are for the most part totally divorced from the real world as most of us know it. Apparently they never watch TV, or read anything apart from the Times Financial pages.

    she does it often (ok not that particular example) - she rocks
    love her! and all her peed off expressions
    she's funny as well - v entertaining programme

    cant think the uk equaivalent one you mean - was that carole malone one - guilty - but that was just zoo tv not a real court
