    Default Blackberry picking

Today after work I went with my children to see our grandfather and we went Blackberry picking. they kept disappearing & I was left with the bucket. Got into the picking and didnt realise that they had left me I was on my own picking blackberries now can you believe that. Hmm typical, just got home and what do I get demands to make blackberry & apple pies. So off I trundle to make blackberry & apple pies.

lol...and the last time I was blackberry picking I nearly got trampled by a horse!! We have a narrow railway track by our house thats bordered by fields, its a lovely walk on a hot day. So me, the OH and family dog go berry picking. There are loads of bushes along the fields, and was enjoying ourselves. Then I spied this HUGE bush in a field of horses, and they were very friendly so we squeezed under the barbed wire and started picking. All is going well when out of nowhere comes the dog, dunno what had gotten into her, but she starts snapping at the horses legs, the horses went berserk and started charging at us, and we just, like, ran?? I dived back under the wire so quick that it raked down my back....ouch!! Just in time too, the horse was behind me and kicked the dog quite hard, enough that she scarpered into the distance very quickly! Luckily she was unhurt, just a scrape on her jaw, but I was so angry with her! Could have got us seriously injured! Needless to say, not so keen on picking berries now, and certainly NOT with a dog!

I have purple fingers, and my arms and legs look like I have been in a cat fight. I had to cook the blackberries too. I don't blame your kids for escaping. If I had any sense I would have poured "Round-Up" all over the bush. The blackberries are huge and very tasty, which is the only reason I tolerate it's presence in the garden. I have one hen which persists in laying her eggs under there. It isn't easy to retrieve an egg using the grabber without breaking it.

That brings back memories of when I was a kid and going blackberry picking with my parents.

LOL at everyone, Im so glad you all like blackberry picking, yea my fault I let them get away. Dammit. Anyhow I enjoyed myself immensly just picking & fighting yes the brambles (onlytheverybest). Made 2 apple & blackberry pies last night & a blackberry tart . Had quite a few left over wow did I picked all of them . Had some left over & attempted to make jam hehe yea you guessed it spent hours stiring the ingredients. And it ends up like syrup. Yes I know theres an art to making jam & I did very well making cement. Lost a damn good saucepan & spoon. Ha ha serves me right il have to stick with Robinsons.

My breadmaker makes excellent jam. Chuck all the stuff in it. Programme it, and it boils and stirs itself, and I only have to pot it up when the buzzer sounds. I am not into standing and stirring stuff for hours. Michael wanted home made chutney. I offered him the recipe book. He was not impressed.
