They may discourage some, but they encourage others, eBid needs more bidders, so end of discussion!

Also, I notice most of those saying get 'rid of' are experienced eBidders - you need to think more like a newbie about this as they are more likely to be attracted by a low starting auction - they might be tempted to bid even though they don't win the item - at least they are out of the starting blocks unharmed.

The reason I don't want to get rid of reserves is the lack of bidders - often an auction will only get the one bid. This means if there is no reserve the seller may lose out and I'm sure there are some buyers who 'prey' on low start auctions with the sole objective of getting something cheap to resell at a higher price - some times on the dark side where I've heard of sellers using eBid for cheap stock.

We all know a 1p or 99p start is more likely to get bids than say a £3.99 start - it encourages bidding - we just need the option of a reserve to avoid sellers getting the feeling of being ripped off.

If you want the site full of BINs remove the reserve option, if you want a mixture of auctions and BINs, leave it as it is.

    Ikea.
    Nicely put.
I vote keep the reserve price for all the reasons in the above post.
    End of discussion.

Personally I'd like the glitches sorted out first before going onto new things - some of them are causing mayhem for us and are soooooooo more important atm

As I said before...I can't see the point of reserve prices...but if they are to stay...then I would LOVE to get rid of those blinking 'reserve price met' icons.

Rather see the number of bids on an item instead....

    #23 Agree totally!

#24 I hate that blinking red 'r' too LOL! I'd rather see the number of bids too, but for me the number of watchers would be even better - might give me hope LOL!

Bit of a contentious issue as I thought it would be. We'll let the discussion continue. On one hand we get alot of complaints from people just wanting to buy things and are frustrated by reserve prices, but on the other hand there is no doubt they do provide bids...

I don't look at auctions unless they've got the 'blinking r' lol, but of course they don't need to blink, they could just sit there lazily doing nothing & i'd be happy, or i'd like all auctions to be no reserve.

Just a point i've noticed, why do the people that say 'end of' go on to write 3 or 4 more paragraphs on the same subject, or lots more posts?

My auctions, good prices, fair p&p.

They didn't. It was someone else had put the quote in their reply.
