Thread: Is Platinum worth it

I still find that a bit strange, I don't mean you are wronge, i mean that they are going to loose the money coming in from gold
Perhaps they are planning something, they did say a news letter was on its way in the week.

I read a post from Gazza somewhere that anyone on a gold subscription will still be billed as gold. Your subscription will only end if you end it.

i know gazza has stated in one of the above notes that i will be billed at the same rate so why did i get the email from support saying you have been given the opportunity to upgrade or you can go to silver ? either some one`s wrong or I'm getting the wrong info from support.

I read that to mean you'll be given the opportunity, not that you'll have to, unless there was more in the email stating that gold was ending.

I'm not a big seller I'm lucky to sell between four or five items a month this is why i liked to pay monthly for my gold membership has anyone got any suggestions on what i can do as I'm not sure joining platinum is going to be cost effective. as i dont sell enough

If you are already on Gold you will be rebilled automatically on Gold. If you want to change from Gold you can go to Silver or Platinum via your My Subscriptions page.

    Hope this helps.

Is there something about that that you don't understand.

I am Gold for life. They haven't taken that away from me. Why would they take it from you just because you pay by subscription.

It just means that there will be no more Gold memberships being offered. The ones who have them will not lose them, as long as they keep renewing their subscription.

    Smile Platinum upgrade

I have just upgraded to platinum and I think its well worth it compared to ebay fees , where I can get charged nearly that amount in a couple of months , so although I will stay there for a while until I get all my listings over here I would say go for platinuim if you have lots of listings.
Am seeing lots more familar names from ebay now on ebid , so hopefully the buyers wont be to long behind.

    Hi Mazhells

I understand your predicament - your subscription page seems to infer that the Gold membership will expire, but if you see post 13 on page 2 of this thread and post 23 on this thread http://helpdesk.ebid.net/showthread.php?t=92623&page=3 it will show that they have promised to honor your current subscription!

I think from the quote below that I got in an email, that they want us to try platinium - but if you do there will be no option of returning to Gold - so If you have got Gold - HANG ON TO IT!

Phew - I thought I was going to lose my gallery pics and my store and I was getting a bit stressed too. This is the copy of the email I got from eBid support:

Thanks for your mail and comments, we have removed our Gold membership as our platinum offers many new features which you may want to try for a month to see the benefit to your account, we have reduced the cost of platinum or you have the option to subscribed to silver status for no cost.

Again, thank you for your mail, we appreciate feedback from our members, let us know if we can be of anymore assistance.

Hope this helps to clarify things a little.

Hi, I have read this thread and I think I understand the implications as far as stated.
    1. Gold will continue for those on subscription (I am on a quarterly sub)
    2. To upgrade from Gold to Platinum, you get a discount.
I am being offered Platinum life for £79.02. Someone earlier on the thread said it cost them £150.

What I can't see is what is the difference between gold and platinum other than the 2% commission on gallery auctions.
As gold is no longer offered I can't find any reference to what I am getting compared to platinum.

When I registered in August 06 there was no paypal integrated checkout so I used PP pay which I do not like as buyers seemed unaware of the charges they would get,
which is why I have not used ebid since.

So another question : Is the paypal checkout fully integrated ie the item no. and description follow through to paypal or does the customer have to enter the details manually?

Any answers or links to where this info is stored on ebid would be most welcome thank you.
