    Emma
    They tasted horrid because
    1. They were Rainbow Trout
    2. They are Farmed or Fishery Pond Stock
    3. They are fed with pellets full of lovely chemicals

For fresh fish you want, rod caught Brown Trout from a river, cooked and eaten the same day. Same goes for Salmon.
Unfortunately the fish you buy from most shops is farmed = reared in tanks, fed with chemical laden pellets to boost growth with added extras to improve the colour of the flesh so it looks good to the consumer. Supply & Demand I guess.
Please don't let this experience put you off, if you can get a fresh Brownie you will find it very tasty. Place a few slices of lemon and some chopped spring onions in the body cavity, wrap 6-8 sheets of newspaper, soak the paper thoroughly, place on a baking sheet and cook Gas 4 (sorry not sure what electric setting is) for 45 mins - 1 hour, check occasionally and re-soak paper if it has dried out completely. When you take paper off it will remove the outer skin too making it much easier to remove flesh from back bone, make a white/mustard sauce and pour over - delish Cook fresh Salmon the same way, adjust cooking time depending on size, it's very tasty.
Yes I fish a lot, it's part of my job hence my passion for fresh fish, won't touch the farmed or fish pond stuff with a 50foot barge pole.

Yummy, I love fish when it's cooked properly! My kids do too, it's always an argument about 'pink fish or yellow fish'

I make a foil pouch for salmon, put butter, black pepper and some lemon and bake it in a hot oven. The foil pouch keeps the moisture in and it's lush..

New potatoes, and some posh veg like baby sweetcorn, mange tout or my favourite, sauteéd courgettes.
:| thats it, I'm off to Tescos to buy fish... LMAO

The Rainbow Trout in our pond aren't fed. They live on insects and fry of other species so taste pretty much the same as wild ones. The pond has brook water coming in one end, and overflows through a sluice into the next pond in line, so as near to a running stream as they could make it. I wouldn't buy farmed Rainbows.
I know a lot of farmed trout are fed pellets with colouring. The pellet manufacturers even provide colour charts to select the colour flesh you want your fish to acquire.
I only buy wild caught salmon. I don't fancy the farmed ones grown on in the estuaries. When you know what pollutants and untreated sewerage still goes into our rivers, you wouldn't want them either.

ewww this thread is making me feel sick. I LOATHE fish (except tuna and battered ones from the chip shop) with a vengeance.

My bf LOVES smoked salmon, jellied eels, mussels etc, and any of the strong smelling fish. I cant stand the smell and it always makes me feel sick, so he has to have it when Im out the house now lol. The silly thing is, when Im back in, I can smell the fish smell all round the house for hours after, yet when hes washed up, he can no longer smell it. I guess Im just sensitive to fishy smells ewwwwwww!!!

    Dont you find...

The day you cook fish and your house pongs, someone un-expected turns up and you spend the next 20 minutes saying sorry for the nasty niff!!

You can't beat a fish fingers in a toasted sandwich - yum yum!

Cook the fish in foil in the oven which stops the smell while it is cooking. After serving the fish roll up the foil and tie it up in a plastic bag. Then a quick spray of Oust will remove any lingering traces.
