Red face can i get sellers contact details before bid?

    hi to you all,
ive come across a item that is in high demand and is a sell out in shops that my daughter is driving me mad for that i couldnt get hold of for xmas. anyway ive came across a seller that is selling this item with a starting bid of a pound with no reserve and she has no fedback and only excepts bank transfers/postal order/cheques. ive asked for her home number so i can speak to her in person as i dont want to get burnt on this item and need reasurance on it which she said she will do.

so my question is how can she give it to me without broadcasting her number or can i get it from ebid before bidding on it, or will i have that option for contact details if i win item?

    thanks joanne

    Joanne,

Please refrain from attempting to contact users asking them for their contact telephone number prior to the auction end. This is unfair on other members that are waiting until the last moment before bidding and inappropriate.

hi, thanks for the advise but that wasnt my intention, it was just to make sure that it wasnt a scam and i wasnt about to get burnt.

if contact details are avalible to me if auction is won by myself then i might feel better about it, so can you confirm that i will have that option?

    thanks joanne

Hi Joanne giving out a phone number wont stop a scammer. You will get the address and email address at the end of the auction.
If you are having doubts now yourself you may have the answer already.

    Thumbs up

Very good advice there from Buttons. I disregarded my gut instinct once and got burnt (on Feebay). Luckilly Paypal came to my rescue with a refund. But it is something I will never do again.

My advice would be not to go ahead, look for someone with an established feedback.

Remember scammers always choose the high-profile, in demand products. If you need one of these, my advice would be to go to the shops, or buy direct from the manufacturer.

hi, and thanks but it looked like my gut feeling was right, ebid removed auction and seller no longer registered. i ended up buying one in the end but only to find ebid sold one today for half the price i bought mine for. didnt know ebid was now selling for all and not just on buddy points so i missed a bargain there.

shall just go on my gut feeling in future, and thanks to you all. joanne

well thats a laugh, twice now i been ripped off using ebid and paying by paypal, you dont get address and emails are hotmails or some other free ones that they never answer, the last auction was deleted by ebid before it ended, so no address never was emailed so no user name, paypal are a waste of space and dont want to know, ebids down the pan for all i care wont be using it again!

You do get the buyers/sellers address in the email from eBid after the auction ends, also their username.
Did you check your spam folder?
It also gives you the same details in the After Auction Log section at the top of the completed auction.

If the last auction was deleted by eBid it would have been for a reason, if it was deleted before it ended of course you wouldn't get details as you wouldn't need them.

    Angry

I have received a users emails address, along with the name and address for a person who placed a bid, on an item of mine. They did not reach the reserve price, and so the item went off unsold.

Yet ebid have charged me for requesting the users details when in fact I did not. I have sent five emails to support and all have been ignored, why I do not know.

So to anyone requesting users details, DON'T as you will be charged for this. I am furious about it. Why should my item which did not sell, did not reach reserve cause me to loose money???
