Hark back to the seventies and earlier, when we were scared of crossing teachers and policemen, and were polite to our parents' friends and neighbours. That is because we were freely admonished for poor behaviour by all of the above. The threat of telling our parents what we had done used to strike fear into our hearts, and if they did tell our parents, our parents backed them up and disciplined us.
I have another for Room 101. Parents who let their kids run riot and think their behaviour's ok, no matter what others say. (And no, that doesn't neccessarily mean you, Elaine.)
There are two sides to the coin, that's all I'm saying.

My kids NEVER run riot ... they have no time.lol
Eldest is in 6th form doing A LEVELS and works on wk end now and is a connexions youth leader.
Middle one is in year 11 and spends 6 days out of 7 swotting and doing her teacher training in the local junior school when they have events etc.
Youngest does boxing, basket ball , swimming and is an anti bullying mentor at his school.
If i had prayed for perfect kids i could not have been better blessed.![]()
