Thread: ex-eBay sellers - let's stick together!

  1. #1

    Default ex-eBay sellers - let's stick together!

My OH suggested this idea last night and I thought I would pass it on.

The majority of us ex-eBay sellers have made the switch from being established shop owners with relatively high and good feedback, to complete newbies. (Thanks eBid regulars for being so welcoming, btw!)

I really think we should all stick together - the one good thing about eBay's latest changes was the feeling it created of "us".

I'm quite happy to purchase some inexpensive things from fellow ex-eBayers, to kick off both your and mine feedback ratings. I'm in the process of listing things in my shop here, most are books costing a couple of £s. So if anyone likes the idea and wants to return the favour, that would be great.

If you like the idea and want to request someone starts you off with a cheap sale and a nice feedback comment, just comment here.

eBid - I'm not in any way suggesting shill bidding or anything similar, just the group of us with a common cause helping each other out by buying things we may not necessarily need.

    Hi there.

I see your point and i do understand where you are coming from.

HOWEVER ... I think you will find that as much as 90% of ebid users, buyers and sellers are or where at one time EBAYERS.

Making them in the exact same position as yourself.

Their has been a sudden influx, thats true , due to ebays ever inflating egos and charges , of which i too bare the costs along with most of my fellow ebidders.Who are also ebayers.

People come over to ebid EVERY DAY from ebay and have done over years ( see the WELCOME NEW MEMBERS sticy at the top of the forum ) .

So are you suggesting that anyone who has recently come over from ebay should not buy from me ? Or other long term ebidders ?

Well, then what if all us OLDBIES ( lmao ... dont think thats even a word ) Made a thread saying : LETS STICK TOGETHER.

Inside it explained how, we long termers would only buy from one another . How on earth would ebid flourish if we are going to get into groups of who should and should not buy from whom ?

Surely the only way to achieve sucsess from this INFLUX is to intergrate with long term, short term, brand new ebidders and grow as one ? Instead of making game plans as to how to raise your feedback.

Just relax. List your goods, stick your auction link in your siggy and be greatful for any bids from anyone, not just fellow newbies.

    Hi Elaine

I wasn't suggesting at all that we ignore oldbies (hehe) - just that I personally would be prepared to buy a couple of small things to help get some people off zero feedback, and I wondered if others would consider the same.

I am also going to try and buy all of the things I need, and would usually buy from eBay sellers, from here. They are things like brown paper, envelopes, etc.

My message certainly wasn't meant to be a us vs them idea, the newbies including myself have really been welcomed and you all seem a lovely bunch.

Hi katie and elaine...I have to agree with elaine...we are all in the same boat here on eBid. We don't do cliques and if you ever feel left out, just get on ur kb and say hi... ...we may use real names...that's no wonder since we have known peeps here for over 3 years...just all join in.

The Kitchen Table was devised by G & M as a forum for the Refugee population escaping from eBay where they had their Round Table. Personally, I think that right now could be the best time for a new push to make eBid succeed as eBay's latest round of price hikes seems almost suicidal, especially coming at a time of further postal increases.

    No problem

    Good Luck anyway.

When i 1st came over i was gutted to be back to zero feedback and i had just missed the allowance of imported feedback from other auction sites so i was doubley upset , but it came slowly but surely.

From reading the business selling boards on eBay, the one thing stopping more sellers moving over here completely is the lack of buyers. But if we all advertise to our past, present and future eBay customers then the numbers will begin to rise. Also, if the genuine sellers move over here, it won't be long before customers realise eBay is flooded with fakes, scammers from China charging £200 postage, etc.

I have been sending a compliment slip out with my sales for a while now with the link to my store on here, but I haven't had the time to stock it. That's my priority now - eBay won't be getting another thing listed by milliesmart.

All of my ebay buyers and sellers get a business card from me with my ebid user name on and i have been told they have come over ( quite a few ) that said, im not sure if they stayed long. LACK OF BUYERS , is soooo true and is what drives us all mad.

But ... the Q is why would a buyer want to come here ?
When they have ebay .... more choice etc.

Well, first off there is less competition here and so they wont usualy get their bid pushed up. Great for them, terrible for the seller.

Other than that , dont some people still prefer the corner shop over the big supermarket ? lol

I dont know, im all out of ideas.

I have had exactly the same thought. The best way to get this site off the ground is to buy from it and encourage people who take the trouble to list on it. Today I bought my bubble wrap from a shop on here (don't know if they are ex-ebay or not) via his website.

I am a regular seller on Ebay and to start with intend to list my products on here with a discount to encourage people to sign up (discount is already paid for due to the fair fees).

Most of my buyers also sell on Ebay and I think that although there are people who obviously only buy, we are also a huge Business to Business operation. I will therefore be looking to buy things on here first before I buy through Ebay to help people get things up and running. I will be listing my fantastic range of shoes over the coming weeks if someone wants to return the favour and I will be checking out your books.

I can't possibly see how you read that in the first post - it said nothing of the kind. It was simply a suggestion that newcomers from Ebay look at each other's auctions and help each other get some positive feedbacks.

We also need to make it clear that our prices will be slightly lower on Ebid than on Ebay, as we no longer have to pay ridiculously high fees - that's bound to bring buyers over!
