Thread: Did anyone see the NEW UPDATE

Default Re: Did anyone see the NEW UPDATE

I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Gazza. I'm sure whatever problems there are with the new image system will soon be ironed out. I've long moaned about the lack of simple onsite crop and rotate, I'd given up hoping there'd be any improvement and I'm delighted to be proved wrong.

People coming from ebay (and I imagine there are a lot, considering how that site has become en****tified this year) are used to having such features. Indeed, although the ebay app is horrible in most respects, I found it very handy for my photos. I create the listing on the desktop, all except the pics, save as a draft, then used the ebay app, which allowed me to crop and rotate on the phone and submit the listing. Much much easier.

For ebid I had to figure out how to transfer my photos from phone to desktop without using broadband (very poor speed here). (Did that, smb share). Even after messing about with a photo editor, the pictures would still not be in my desired orientation sometimes (this is to do with EXIF data I believe). If I can crop and rotate successfully using the new system, this will save me time and further encourage me to see ebid as my site of choice for some kinds of item.

I upload the photos for just one listing at a time, thus I don't run into constraints on the number in a single upload. I can imagine others have different workflows though. For me, it would be nice if, when making a listing and then using the uploader, I had an option to select those pics in my gallery that I'd just uploaded, rather than having to click, say, a dozen checkboxes individually. But that's only a "would be nice", whereas crop/rotate will be a game changer for me.

    THANK YOU!

edit to add: I see even this forum is Bowdlerised. For anyone unfamiliar with the word that acquired 4 asterisks, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En****tification for an explanation. The word was even added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2024!

2nd edit: I give up. Even links suffer.

We've added this option today also. As always it's been tested but when you let something out in the wild it always gets tested in ways we hadn't thought of so let us know any problems.

Are you cropping them again via the widget's edit button?

The new widget should work exactly the same as the old advanced uploaded, it will take the image you add to it and upload it, there is no need to crop images within the widget if you don't want to.

Do you have any listing IDs I can look at to see the problem.

    Thanks,
    Gazza
    Not quite improved my workflow.

Here is an example of a multi-item scan but you cannot upload this n times in one lot in the open file of the file selector "fname" "fname" "fname" used to work, even tried add files but get message duplicate file not allowed.

In this example I expected to load the picture file up to 12 times in the widget then crop each file in the widget then save.

The gallery allows multiples of same titles and pictures. Why not the widget??

At the moment I have to load the same file each time and crop in each separate create listing, rather than just be able to select the cropped picture straight from the gallery.

So I am still back to using an offline picture editor to create the required cropped images.

UPDATE: A workround for me was to open windows explorer, copy the file and paste 11 times. I was then able to select the files in one hit, and crop successfully in the widget very quickly to get the 11 items, and then upload. I think that was faster than using offline picture editor, then loading in one hit. Anyway at least the cropped pictures from the widget do not appear very small when the listing picture is clicked. (This smallness resulted in my first tests of the widget).

    Hi Gazza
Thank you for the new picture editing feature which I love and which is a good enhancement to the site.
Please may I request a tweak to the feature? Could the editing tools be taken off the actual picture to be edited and not overlaid on the picture?

    Hi Robbie,

From the sounds of it, it seems you are attempting to to create multiple individual images from a larger image. This was never the use case for the crop tool, it's merely to enhance the image you are uploading by focusing on a certain area of the image. It was never meant to create multiple images from one.

However, this is an interesting example, creating multiple images from one image.. I will see if the widget we use has the facility for this.

    Thanks,
    Gazza

We are limited by the size of the dashboard/widget, we would have to shrink the image and place it above the controls. I will see 1) if possible and 2) how it looks.

This has been a fascinating thread (and hopefully will continue to be so!). I had no idea of the diversity of use cases. For example, since I don't sell small things like stamps, it hadn't crossed my mind that people might put several items on a scanner bed and image them at the same time.
