This just allows a visitor to go off elsewhere. Very poor indeed.

I don't see them either as I have ads blocked. But I was put off by that popup when I went to look how it appears to people who do see adverts.

It interupts the viewing of the site.

The adverts down the sides and horizontally are not too bad though. It's just a problem with those that get in the way of the site.

that is the one off putting thing about this site is the spam ads everywhere - I had to get a good ad blocker to wipe them out of my view - they were very invasive in the sellers area for listing/editing - slowed my pc down a lot so I can imagine what a visitor will contend with the first time they visit listings

I had enough of the ads, so if you use Firefox, this (as a free option) seems to do the job, at present.

In Firefox go to your add-ons manager, search adblocker and you can find this in the list to add to your extensions.

There are many choices and of course that is entirely up to you. Note it is best prctice to choose one with a Gold Cup badge recommended by Firefox.

Opera have a pretty good ad blocker too, it's my browser of choice.

    Today the ads came back!
Despite setting preferences at login to uncheck all the ad boxes ... this worked well until now and the ads stayed away.
So here they are in full force - so intrusive - ugh! Very off-putting for newbies I'm sure
    Time to change browsers!

Try using one of the blockers mentioned above, I use adblocker plus (the free version) as it was the origional pop-up blocker, looks like it will work with any system, browser etc.

I thought I had adblocker already installed, but it seems to have vanished.

The settings on Firefox were already on for stopping ads and that did not work on this latest batch, adbocker seems to kill them

Just wish the site owners did not put this trash on the site in the first place - shame on them.

I'm not going to conjecture whether the site owners are using ads or they're the result of a hack. I like AdBlock Plus. I've used it for years. As you mention, it's free, but they do ask for contributions, and I do throw them a bone from time to time. Free software, and especially open source software, if it's good, deserves encouragement and support. People need to realise that if they don't give a little, eventually the developers will feel so unappreciated they'll move on to other work.
