Mr. Carney is our PM. The question now is whether the government will be a majority or minority. The Liberal party needs 4 more seats to have a majority. There are still special ballots to count in ridings where they could make a difference and the Liberal could possibly win the seat.
The leader of the Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, lost his seat. I did not expect that. Six months ago he was leading in the polls by a substantial margin. Before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned and Mark Carney became PM.
The leader of the New Democratic Party, Jagmeet Singh, also lost his seat.
The last government was a minority and Singh worked with Trudeau's Liberals.
As to what all this means in Canada's dealings with the US, I have no idea. Mr. Trump changes his mind every other day on key issues, so there is no predicting that, especially for someone like me who doesn't understand the inner political workings.
I live in a very Conservative rural riding. Our MP was re-elected. Alberta is a Conservative strong hold. Every so often a Liberal or NDP is elected in our major cities, Calgary and Edmonton. I don't know what the election of Mark Carney means for Alberta politics. No doubt many Albertans are not happy this morning.
