I wonder who is alerting ebid that the buyer isn't legitimate and why? The buyer has bought and paid(?) for the item, what's not legitimate about that?

Is it a card issuer or paypal, because there is something wrong with the buyer's method of payment?

I've never had one of these cancelled transactions but have had a few non-paying buyers and do know that the process for getting a FVF refund must be followed exactly. (Payment reminders, negative FB left, before requesting the refund.) But always the sale stays on my dashboard long enough to do what's required. It's then blacked out for a while and then disappears. Usually followed by the 'buyer' becoming 'non-registered'.

It all seems a bit odd, especially if the process is automated but without an automatic refund.

It does seem a bit odd, but part of it I can relate to. I imagine the site may have had to put in place defences if something has been going on, similar to what I suffered some years ago on ebay. I would get sales to accounts with 0 feedback and then no payment. The account names followed a pattern and I think there were some kind of automated attacks on that site, just to disrupt it. Others selling electronics/tech were experiencing similar.

Hopefully support will sort it out.

Hello, I don't know how they know. It would be interesting to find out how they are alerted to the illegitimacy of a buyer. From my experience I think it is relatively accurate. There was one time a group of buyers had come in and purchased a bunch of phones from me. I didn't know that they were being purchased with stolen credit cards. I was alerted, but it was too late because I had already shipped the items. So, I wouldn't have that much of a problem with it if they would fix the refunding issue.
