Well, with all it's pitfalls, eBid works for me!
Well, with all it's pitfalls, eBid works for me!
Afternoon Steve
Ive got a couple of questions for you.
I know you have been here for quite a while but I'm genuinely interested to know how many of your sales are from repeat buyers in comparison to new ones.
And the other question is, if you are on the bay how does it compare ?
I'm on there as well, this weekend Ive sold 15 cards on there 12 of which were to repeat buyers.
I'm going to be waiting 2 weeks to get paid mind ;-)

2 weeks till you get paid? Must be something new over there.
On Etsy you now have to wait up to 90 days to get paid!!!
No thanks, I'd rather stay here on Ebid and get paid almost immediately (relying on customer to pay via PayPal)
Ebid has no control of our finances (only when it's time to pay fees).
Yes, it's true. So many changes.
Oct 2024: zero fees for private sellers. Though I don''t recall anyone campaigning for that, and while 13.2% + 30p final value fee had been rather steep, every couple of weeks there was an 80% off offer, so 2.6% + 30p. But beware the Greeks bearing gifts. Those who'd followed the ebay CEO's presentation to shareholders knew that there were more changes to come, before the end of Q1 2025.
Q4 2024 (I think): introduction of Simple Delivery in some categories (in particular, Clothing, I guess to compete with Vinted). SD means ebay takes charge of delivery and is able no doubt to negotiate bulk rates and cream off profit.
Feb 2025: payment hold until tracked postage shows delivered (which it too often doesn't) or 14 days. And BUYER fees, of 4% + 75p. Making it especially difficult for low value items. Includes a lot of mine, and I don't doubt postcard sellers, stamp collectors, little gaming model makers, knitters and others will be hard hit.
Before end Q1 (not yet confirmed): SD will be mandatory. This is a killer for those of us who rely on collection from our homes. No way I'm going to run around to a distant parcel shop with a £5 parcel instead of having my nice postie collect it from my enclosed porch (where I left it for him the night before).
The ebay community forums have gone ballistic over these changes.
It's a huge opportunity for Ebid.

There is an announcement on ebay giving private sellers the option to choose which carriers they want to use. If using RM you should still be able to opt for collection even using their postage labels. Have no idea how it works as I don't/won't have a personal ebay account just my business one.

Yes, its a pretty new thing,it came in at the beginning of the month but I dont mind too much because Im currently paying no fees at all to sell on there which actually makes it *Ahem* cheaper to sell on there than it is on here, its not as if I rely on the money.
So far the promised buyer fees of 0.75p plus 4% have not appeared in the postcard category for private sellers either....long may that continue !
For the last 4 months Ive really made hay while the sun has shone over there with no fees and payment the next day, together with the footfall means its been a no brainer as to where to put the effort in.
Etsy..if there was anywhere that is less transparent about fees Ive yet to see it.Ive got a shop on there but Ive run it down, their fee structure is awful, actually its downright misleading.
Yes, I have regular buyers - sometimes with long gaps in between purchases - as well as new ones ... I aim to keep up with my regular buyers with new stock ... and I have plenty!
I know they buy from other sellers too which is always good for everyone ... keeping customers interested and on eBid is paramount in my opinion.
I gave up eBay altogether some time ago, finding it a lot easier and hassle free on here.
Waiting 2 weeks for payment is obscene! You should get paid when when the transaction occurs - why else would you send your valuables beforehand?
It works for me as well.
I list one new item a week as a 40 day auction, mainly to liven-up page 1 of the search results. Then I re-list as RUS.
On obay I did the same thing but with only 7 day auctions. Their version of RUS (GTC) is designed to give obay the opportunity to control visibility so every month I had to faff about deleting and re-listing (Sell Similar) to keep listings 'fresh'.
Now I've stopped listing on obay I don't even have to take care not to have the two titles the same. Goggle shopping doesn't tolerate duplicate listings and will always pick the ad. from the larger site and ignore the one from ebid.
I can always find a few of my Ebid listings on Google Shopping, but never saw any of my obay ads. on there.
I am careful about my listing titles and try to get as many Key-Words that buyers might use when searching into them.
My sales here might not be stellar, but IMO selling collectables will always be erratic. The reason I've stopped selling on ebay is that on ebid my sales go up almost every year since Lock-Down. On obay (because I won't Sponsor my listings) they go down. That won't change even though ebay says it's Free to Sell, No sponsorship fee, no sales IMO + 14 day payment holds because I know my buyers like RM 2nd Class and won't be happy paying more for Tracked postage.
My sales on Ebid. 2022 = 17 2023 = 24 2024 = 28 2025 = 2 (so far!)
My sales on obay. 2022 = 13 2023 = 13 2024 = 04
I have a mixture of repeat buyers, possibly some are dealers? But I also have a fair number of buyers who are new to Ebid and making their first ever purchase. I always leave FB for my buyers. I helps me keep an accurate count of the number of sales I've made in total (153 so far) even if they don't leave FB for me.
