Are you sure it was a mushroom, Buttons?
Are you sure it was a mushroom, Buttons?
yes a huge one packed with cheese and garlic, unfortunately they had mixed bread crumbs in it
Wow! Were you allergic to it, or did it set off one of your dodgy poorly things? Gluten can be really iffy as well as wheat, as you know
My immune system gets triggered into an immune response at the slightest thing so I have to be very careful around people to avoid colds and so on. A dodgy immune response like I might get from a vaccine could send me straight back to ICU.
I have avoided supermarkets for 4 years now (since I got lost on the way home from a convenience store I had used a couple of times a week at one point). I also do what I can to avoid visitors.

I have coeliac disease Moony and they had mixed bread crumbs into the filling, my own fault for not looking at the ingredients but I just didn't expect bread in a cheese and garlic mushroom, i looked like I had had a fight today and been punched in the face.
I didn't know you had coeliac. Just goes to show how well I read the posts on-line as you would have mentioned it.
I watch gluten content too because of the autoimmune thingummy and no right away id I have been eating stuff that my body really doesn't want.
Some silly care assistant when I was in hospital swore blind I had ordered toast with my breakfast. It was nearly handbags at dawn on the ward lol
believe me if i didnt have coeliac there is no way i would eat gluten free stuff it's very limiting and a lot of it it disgusting, i wont be eating stuffed Mushroom again thats for sure, that reaction was violent.
Hospital wards dont cater for coeliac either which I dont really understand knowing how bad the reaction can be even to the point of using the same cooking utensil or washing up water.
I don't eat ready made gluten free stuff either but since all meat, fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables, naturally gluten free grains and dairy are already gluten free there is already a wide choice of foods if I wanted to go gluten free.
I went for yogurt for breakfast and things like bacon and eggs so didn't go hungry
Luckily, I don't have any issues with gluten. Of course, at my age I seem to be less tolerant of many of the foods I devoured in my misspent youth. Alas! Those cold slices of left over pizza don't seem to sit as well as they once did. Of course, there are many things that I would never order in my youth that I've become quite fond of now. Who would have ever guessed that I would become fond of grilled asparagus or bacon roasted Brussel sprouts. Go figure!
I've just had a bit of a shock. As you know I live in Thurrock and I'm sure you've heard that this is the worst area for Covid.
An old friend of mine who lives the other side of the town has always kept in touch and I meet with both of them this time of year for a few drinks and a meal.
There was a Christms card in my hallway about an hour ago. I opened it and it was from Pat telling me that they had been on a Caribbean cruise. Some people aboard had gone down with the virus. Dave, her husband, hd caught it from them and they were flown home. Despite everything, including ventilator, Dave had died of the ****** thing! Poor Pat!
She's about 65 and he was about 70. Known them about 20 plus years. I've a problem now as I do not know what to do. Normally, I'd meet her face to face to talk. I cannot because of the "rules". If I 'phone her, we'll both end up in tears with no hand to hold; if I drop her a line that will be much too cold. I do not know any other friends and neighbours of theirs....I'll need to think about this one. I must try to make normal "human" contact...the poor, poor lass
Sorry to bother you all with this one, but it has come up briefly with us once or twice and I wanted to get it off my chest. Such times...
