I just read something about the princes' fiance being criticized by the for showing up at the engagement announcement sans pantie hose. Surely there are better issues than that to occupy the minds of the British press and their readers.

That does not surprise me one bit, and just shows that some things have not changed much. A few years ago when someone named Diana Spencer came onto the royal radar, the British papers were having a frenzy as the kindergarten nanny had a photo taken with the sun behind her shining through her skirt and showing her legs. For some reason it was deemed the most important thing that had happened that day.

Now... If she had done a 'Sharon Stone' (as in 'Basic Instinct') then that would have been newsworthy.
Afraid it is just one of those things that you have to expect if you attach yourself to the royalty. Being more media savvy than some of her forerunners she may be better able to deal with the attention frenzy.
I did see a newspaper headline t'other day that had dug up that she was descended from an African slave. I didn't read beyond the headline.
I don't understand the interest (am sick of hearing about her already) but it must be there, sell papers, and pad out TV news.
I don't think the US media is any better.

Turning up anywhere in the UK with bare legs in November is crazeee!
I agree with Astral, the media frenzy is a pain.

I am with you on that one, otherwise I think 'So what?'
I keep confusing her for Angela Merkel.
Check out Philippa of Hainault who married Edward III, and mother of The Black Prince, & Queen Charlotte, wife of George III - both of mixed race descent !

Alas! I can't say I'm up on the fashion rules of the royals. Here in Florida pantie hose is not considered a must have by most women.
I do have a question concerning succession to the throne that someone might be able to answer. The way I understand it, Charles is next in line followed by William. After William the throne would go to William's oldest and then on down the line through his children and Harry would follow after them. So Harry would be fifth in line once the next child of William's is born. Am I correct?
Harry is 5th in line at the moment. Once new baby arrives next April, he moves down to 6th.
Here's the line of succession as it stands today.
- The Prince of Wales. Heir to the throne and the next king of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Realms. ...
- The Duke of Cambridge. ...
- Prince George. ...
- Princess Charlotte. ...
- The new Prince/Princess of Cambridge. ...
- Prince Harry. ...
- The Duke of York. ...
- Princess Beatrice.
- Princess Eugenie
