    Default Forum: Size & Contrast

While I'm sure that we all appreciate the switch back to the previous version of the forums, even with the loss of a couple of months of posts, I'm wondering if default size of the type could be increased just a tad for those of us that time has not been kind to in the vision department. Perhaps going up one increment from this to this.

Would it also be possible to increase the contrast between the type and the background? The pastel shade used is somewhat difficult to distinguish clearly, especially in the case of the bold of the unread threads and not bold ones of those that have been read. Might I suggest something more along the lines of unread and read like this or perhaps even just using black and bold the read and not the unread.

    Just a thought!

I find the light blue font hard to see. I'm having even more difficulty today than usual as my floaters are really floating and flapping.

The issue of sufficient contrast between font and background is a like a plague that goes right across the internet.

Playing around with different font colours and different coloured backgrounds might appeal to the artistic sensibilities of web designers but they can damage the effectiveness of websites if people find it difficult to read what has been posted.

The same goes for font size. I am always amazed at companies that will have spent a lot of money on website development only for the font to appear so small that people cannot read it.

These issues can also make it more difficult for sellers on sites like eBid when it comes to being able to identify typing errors quickly when creating listings.

Although I have coloured backgrounds on my websites, the standard font for text is arial 12 pt in bold black – never any problems for anybody with reasonable eyesight reading what I have to say.

It would be good if somebody could review the font / background colour and font size issues across the eBid set up please.

A point that I was saving for the cosmetic adjustments thread is that in the present situation with the eBid Forum and selling sites is that when using both Firefox and Internet Explorer, part of the eBid websites' display and functionality disappears when I change browser settings to say 125% of standard size to compensate for the difficulty in reading the coloured fonts and the font size.

I posted this under "Cheers Gazza" but it's relevant here too.
    So I've done it again:
    I like it too.
Except that I can't read the headings. Light blue on white - not a good combination for clarity.
I suppose that is why books and newspapers are printed black on white.
    So people can read them

Your argument would be more valid if the colour blue you used to make your point in your message [#afeeee / rgb(175,238,238)] was the same as the one you were complaining about [#43a6df / rgb(67,166,223)]. It is not, as can be clearly seen by comparing it to the text left and in your sig below. Your post again in the actual colour you are complaining about:

I have no issue with the blue and my eyesight and color perception are far from good - let alone less than perfect.

Pale colours on a light background simply don't make for easy reading if your eyesight is a bit off (even if it's good cone to that)... I tested and tested and tested on my own website before it went live and I found the better the contrast the more notice was taken, so I use either dark grey or black on white for normal writing and either a dark red or dark blue bold text for anything else. It makes sense...

To be fair, I doubt eBid chose the colours for individual display elements. They bought in a theme from PixelGoose Studio which dictated the colour palette.

By then they had likely had enough of faffing about with the forums with vBulletin 5 and wanted to turn their attentions back to the main site.

Depending on the terms of sale and/or copyright eBid may not be at liberty to make changes to the theme.

I'm just happy to have a working forums back (I doubt eBid got a refund on vBulletin 5) and would rather they address site issues than forum aesthetics (even though I am usually one of the first to complain about such things).
