What I meant was the electoral college should be done away with entirely and Pres. and VP should be selected by popular vote as are all the other offices.
I like the Icelandic system, where anyone who is a citizen can have a say in government by attending government sessions and voicing concerns, IMHO that's true democracy at its best. (I'm aware this wouldn't be feasible in countries with large populations, I'm not a total idiot, but I can dream)...
Back to the original topic: what will happen if this poll proves popular? Do you think it will have an impact on how future UK elections are decided?
Best wishes for many sales to all,
What of? One day becoming one?
As the current system benefits the two main parties then it unlikely to happen. Even if there were another referendum it would be like the last, phrased in such a way that the answer is guaranteed to be the one the incumbent government wants; a binary choice between the current system and a worse one.Back to the original topic: what will happen if this poll proves popular? [QUOTE=astral276;1651986]That stinks, but unfortunately it's the system we have here as well, in that the two major parties control the government, and any 3rd party candidate has a much harder time of getting elected to any office, forget about the highest offices. Even Teddy Roosevelt couldn't win on a 3rd party ticket, and that's saying something.
I do wish parties outside the mainstream had more of a chance; I've often been tempted to vote Green myself, (as I feel closest to their platform), but don't as I don't want to waste a vote. Sad but true...

The problem with PR is that it hands power to groups of people out of all proportion to their support.
In Israel they have it, and find that a party with 5% of the vote can dictate to those with much more support.
If we had PR you would have MPs from the National Front, The English Defence League, The Monster Raving Looney Party, and any bigot or racist that could collect a few votes in each constituency.
Would you really want that?
